As Asian Countries have not been exposed to official long drive events before, we at FusionExcel together with JD427 will be holding Malaysia’s first ever Long Drive Challenge. There are plans to launch the same events in Thailand and Indonesia next year.
The REMAX world long drive tour has been run by the Long Drivers of America (LDA) for over 18 years. 32 countries hold long drive events throughout the year with their champions all qualifying for the World Finals held in Mesquite, Nevada, USA each year. Professional long drivers can average over 380 yards in competition, compared with 300 yard averages from the top PGA Tour and 200 yards for an average amateur. Some shots in competitions surpass 400 yards. The world record in a long drive competition is 539 yards by Scott Smith. The record distance achieved in the RE/MAX European Long Drive Championship is 474 yards by Englishman Joe Miller in September 2005. Fast swingers can swing their club heads at over 150 mph, well beyond the 85 mph average for an amateur.
Event Manager and FusionExcel sports spokesman Mr. Jean Daniels says “I am very excited to bring the world of long drive to Malaysia. Sayings like:
“GRIP IT AND RIP IT” and “GO LONG OR GO HOME”.
Will soon become sayings used all over Malaysia.
Our main goals are to develop and expose the great sport of long driving to Asia. The event is going to give all participants the opportunity to experience for themselves the excitement of standing on the tee and try to hit the ball as far as they possibly can.
Taking part is easy. All people have to do is come to one of the qualifying events and register. Entrance fee is RM50 for six golf balls which comes with a goodie bag of gifts and memorabilia. Competitors have 4 minutes to hit six balls within the marked fairway which is 45 yards wide. The longest drive of the six counts as their longest drive. People can enter as many times as they like. Each competitor will also receive a certificate with their official distance.
The longest drives at the end of the day will qualify for the grand final.
At each event we are also holding a large golf fair. Most of the top manufacturers and suppliers of golf equipment and accessories are taking part. They will all have their latest products on display as well as some great deals for everyone. The ranges at each event will open for all to warm up and also try all the latest products available.
All the information on the event is available on the FusionExcel or the JD427 web sites. www.fusionexcel.com or www.jd427.com
Thank you.
Jean Daniels
